Labor Management

Labor Management has come a long way in the past few decades. It wasn't that long ago that the entirety of Labor Management could be summed up by looking at the time card punch machine by the employee entrance. Payroll clerks would add up hours and try to apply shift, job, and overtime rules as best they could. All too often, a slip of the finger or a misinterpretation would wind up losing the company or the employee money. Bill and Harry could work the same hours and do the same thing, yet wind up with different payment amounts at the end of the week.

Along came computerized systems that helped to ensure correct and consistent calculations of hours. As the systems grew, they began to be able to help plan how to best utilize your labor force. ‘How many people do you need’, ‘when should they come in’, and ‘who should you bring in’ questions were answered. The old timecard has now become a major business practice tool!

Amazingly, there are still a huge number of companies – both large and small – who still use timecards and timesheets. They are not only risking improperly paying their employees, but they are also missing out on data that can help their company’s profits – and their employee’s morale. Many other companies are paying with computerized systems, but not leveraging the information.

So, the big question now is… Is your company one of them?

  • Are you still using old fashion timecards and timesheets?
  • Are you paying your people correctly when they perform special services?
  • Do your pay rules reflect your intentions?
  • Do your pay rules have loopholes that could cause issues?
  • Do your pay rules encourage your employees?
  • Are you leveraging your labor hours properly?
  • Are you listening to what your labor hours are telling you?
  • Are you proactively addressing overtime and extra costs?

Let my extensive experience with clients of all sizes and in all markets help you review and improve your pay practices. Let's make sure that you are paying fairly, consistently, and as intended. Let's make sure that you can get ahead of extra expenses from things like overtime (and worse than that – grievances). Let’s increase employee morale by allowing them to feel at ease knowing that they are paid properly – and that their time is valued. And let's use the information from your labor system to help improve your business… and the bottom line.
