There is an old story about a newlywed couple. Every time the wife made a roast, she cut a piece off both ends and threw them out. Her husband asked her why she did that. She answered, “My mother always did it.” They asked the mother and she said, “Your grandmother always did it.” They then asked the grandmother and she replied, “Because the roasts are always a little too big for my pot. I cut the ends off so they fit.”
Are your business processes and procedures running along “just because we always did it that way”? Are you throwing ‘the ends’ away for no good reason? When was the last time that you took a close look at not just what you are doing, but why? Are there unneeded redundancies? Is there a better, safer, faster, less risky way to do something? Have you taken the time to reimagine, or are you so deep in the forest that you can no longer see the trees? Let's walk around your ‘forest’ and I’ll point out things you may be overlooking.
Improvements don’t only come from improving the process, improvements can also come from what the processes can tell us. Are you listening to what your processes and procedures are telling you? Sure, you are probably capturing the obvious data, but what about the not so obvious information? Let me help you listen to all the information ‘sounds’ that you are hearing.
Many companies overlook the information that can be gathered from the hours that their employees work. They pay their employees but fail to analyze those reported hours to help lower overtime hours, make better use of worked hours, enhance efficiency, and increase worker satisfaction. Let me help you mine out that information.
Your workers are also a wealth of knowledge. They are ‘hands-on’ every day – be it building something or creating reports. Let me talk with them, watch what they do, and help you create a better process and an environment where they can better share improvement ideas with you.
How about the documentation that helps your business run? If you don’t have any or it is insufficient, I can help you put it together to improve consistency and understanding. If you already have documentation, does it say what you need it to say? Let me help you put together concise and complete documentation.
Let me help you improve upon the foundation that you have laid down.
